Decentralised heat recovery
Small units directly in the external wall. Each room ventilates by itself — without ducts, without suspended ceilings, and it can be added to a finished house, even one room at a time.
How it works
No ductwork through the house — everything happens directly in the wall of the room.
Unit in the wall
A penetration is drilled through the external wall and a unit with a heat-exchange core is fitted in it.
Alternating operation
The unit alternately exhausts and draws in air. When exhausting, the core absorbs heat; when drawing in, it releases it.
They work in pairs
Units in the rooms usually complement each other — when one draws air in, the other exhausts it.
Control
You set the output and mode easily, each room according to how you use it.
When it suits
Suits you when
- you are renovating and do not want to tear out ceilings or floors
- you have no route for ductwork
- you want to start with the bedroom or the children's room
- you are ventilating a flat or a smaller house
Things to bear in mind
- each unit needs a penetration through the external wall
- each unit has its own filter to maintain
- for a whole house, central heat recovery is usually more efficient
- small grilles will be visible on the façade
Quick comparison
| Decentralised heat recovery | Central heat recovery (MVHR) | |
|---|---|---|
| Ductwork | none | ducts through the house |
| Installation | wall penetration in every room | unit + ductwork, ideally during construction |
| Suits | renovation, flat, step-by-step installation | new build, major renovation |
| Maintenance | filter in each unit | one filter in one unit |
| Ventilation | room by room | whole house at once, in one direction |

What you ask us
How many units do I need?
It depends on the number and size of the rooms you want to ventilate. We will design the layout so that the units work in pairs.
Can decentralised heat recovery be installed in a flat?
Yes, if a penetration through the external wall is possible. In apartment blocks the building manager's consent is sometimes needed.
How often are the filters cleaned?
Usually several times a year — you take the filter out of the unit and clean or replace it.
Can I start with just one room?
Yes, that is a big advantage of decentralised heat recovery. You can add more rooms later.
