Grants for a heat pump
Malta currently has no scheme for air-to-water heat pumps that heat the whole house. There is a grant for heat pump water heaters. Here is the current state.
Current state of support
In October 2026 we found no national grant in Malta for air-to-water heat pumps used for space heating. The Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) runs a grant on water heaters for homes (Call 2025/WH): 50% of the price of a heat pump water heater including VAT, up to €1,400, for private individuals, with the application submitted before purchase. It covers water heaters, not heating systems — check with REWS whether your system qualifies. The Building and Construction Authority's Irrinova Darek renovation scheme also covers heat pump water heaters, but in 2026 it targeted the Southern Region and is now closed. Check servizz.gov.mt for new calls.

Can I combine it with other grants?
No other public grant may be claimed for the same system, and the property must not be used mainly for business or letting.
Does a heat pump make sense in Malta without a grant?
Yes — in a mild climate an efficient heat pump such as N2N PROLINE (SCOP 5.14) heats, cools and makes hot water at low running cost. We can calculate the savings for your home.
